This hiking tip on the Rothaarsteig starts either in Schmallenberg-Schanze, in Bad Berleburg-Kühhude or in Schmallenberg-Latrop. You can start this circular hike on the Rothaarsteig at any of these three hiking portals.
This hike on the valley variant and Kammweg of the Rothaarsteig offers many highlights in a very small space: the breathtaking distant views from the crest of the Rothaargebirge mountains as well as the deeply incised and secluded Grubental valley between Latrop and Schanze. With three sculptures on the Forest Sculpture Trail(https://www.waldskulpturenweg.de/), this walk also offers culturally interesting points on the border between the Wittgensteiner Land and the Sauerland. And last but not least, the suspension bridge on the Rothaarsteig is an attractive starting point on this varied tour.

Directions
On the valley and ridge variant of the Rothaarsteig trailWe start at the Kühhude hiking parking lot directly on the Rothaarsteig. After just a quarter of an hour on the Grenzweg, we reach the sculpture "Stone, Time, Man". Shortly afterwards, you can put your fear of heights to the test with a walk across the 40 m long suspension bridge on the Rothaarsteig. The Rothaarsteig then continues in absolute seclusion to the refuge at "Zinses Eck". Well done! You could say that, because the next three kilometers of this circular tour lead downhill from Zinses Eck via the main hiking route X23 to Latrop, where you can stop for a bite to eat.We are now on the valley variant of the Rothaarsteig and hike through the secluded Grubental valley up towards Schanze. The once mighty "Dicke Eiche" oak tree has had to be trimmed a little in recent years due to its age.Another rest stop is worthwhile at the Altarstein with its small fire pond. The path leads leisurely up to Schanze through majestic beech forests. It is possible to stop off at the Schanze ski hut (requires a short detour from the tour) or at the Schanze 1 country inn (weekends). In the center of Schanze, we leave the Rothaarsteig and continue in an easterly direction on the main road to the ranger station. The Kyrill-Pfad starts at the station, but is not part of this loop. If you want to walk it, you should allow at least half an hour extra. The first of three sculptures on the forest sculpture trail, the "Krummstab", is now within sight. We continue straight on along the Grenzweg, where we meet the ridge variant of the Rothaarsteig again and then immediately come across the next sculpture, "Kein leichtes Spiel". A beautiful trail then leads us back to the hamlet of Kühhude, the start of our walk. With a length of 16.2 kilometers and 402 meters of altitude to overcome, the pure hiking time is 4 ½ to 5 hours. With a visit to the suspension bridge, breaks at the sculptures and refreshments, the estimated walking time is closer to 6 to 7 hours.
