We look forward to being out and about with you on the Rothaarsteig on Baltz Hiking Day on May 18, 2025. The shorter tour of the Baltz Hiking Day starts in Winterberg-Grönebach and takes you along the Rothaarsteig to Willingen (Upland) over a distance of just under 13 kilometers and an elevation gain of around 300 meters. On the way, we stop off at the Hochheide hut.

The Baltz hiking day 2025 on the Rothaarsteig - short tour
  • approx. 08:00 am departure from Bochum (exact time and location to be announced)
  • approx. 09:45 a.m. Arrival in Winterberg-Grönebach - small refreshment and toilet break
  • 10:30 a.m. Start of the hiking tour

After a little refreshment, we take the bus for another 2 minutes to the start of the hike in the Winterberg district of Hildfeld. From there, the route leads through the Schweimecke valley up to the Rothaarsteig. At the top, the trail continues to the Niedersfelder Hochheide, a 74-hectare nature reserve in the north-eastern Rothaargebirge. It is the largest high mountain heath in north-west Germany. The Clemensberg at 837 m above sea level offers a fantastic view. NN offers a fantastic 360° panorama of the Sauerland mountains. A break is planned here in the Hochheide hut.
After the break, the route continues up the Langenberg, the highest elevation in North Rhine-Westphalia at 843 m above sea level. The hike then leads along a narrow border path to the Richtplatz, an old place of justice in the middle of the forest. From there, we descend to Willingen. The hiking day ends in the K1 hut.

Participation in the Baltz hiking day is only possible with a valid ticket.

Author Tip

Pack enough water despite stopping at the Hochheide hut. Because we are out in nature, there is no opportunity to fill up your water supply.
