The new German hill hiking path, the Rothaarsteig, has made a very successful start in the tourist hiking market and will soon become a synonym and a pacesetter for the New Hiking. According to the researches of the well-known German hiking magazine “Wandermagazin”, more than 100,000 hikers a year set foot on the Rothaarsteig. An extraordinary success for modern hiking! The Sauerland, the Wittgenstein area and the Siegerland, the Lahn-Dill mountain country and the high Westerwald have, through the Rothaarsteig as an attractive hiking environment, won new hikers, guests and visitors throughout Germany!

You are needed for the future of the Rothaarsteig!

The Rothaarsteig is successful because many people are pulling together, in the right direction! The State governments of North Rhine Westphalia and Hessen together with the neighbouring towns and the forestry offices have contributed substantial financial means for the start of the Rothaarsteig.
But it is essential to preserve, maintain and further develop the hiking experience Rothaarsteig in the richly forested, green Rothaargebirge mountains. Works requiring substantial investments of time and resources are for example the maintenance of the markings, the improvement of the paths, the completion of the hiker-friendly path signposting, more refuges, and a great deal more!
Even a successful hiking path needs more sponsors and friends, more civic commitment. Only in this way will it be possible for “the Way of the Senses” to continue to develop for a successful future with its broad contribution to a large region and to market itself better.
